Orthopaedic Diagnosis and Treatment Options at St. Joseph Medical Center

There are so many ways you enjoy spending time. There’s no reason to let joint, back and muscle pain get in your way. The specialists at The Orthopaedic Institute at St. Joseph Medical Center have the expertise and understanding not only to treat your problem, but also to help you get back to spending your days and nights doing what you love.

A morning walk. An evening game of catch on the lawn. A quick trip upstairs. Most people don’t give it a second thought. But if you’re one of the 43 million people in the U.S. who suffer from pain in your back, joints, bones or muscles, even simple tasks like sitting can be difficult.

But with help from The Orthopaedic Institute at St. Joseph Medical Center, you have the power to change that. Our physicians and staff of specialists offer treatments that are at the forefront of the field. Our goal is to give you back your freedom – to go where you want and do what you want, not just make it through the day.

Arthritis Treatment and Joint Replacements and Revisions
Our specialists begin with a conservative approach to arthritis care. If needed, we offer the most advanced joint replacement surgery for knees and hips, as well as revisions of replaced joints. We perform close to 800 joint replacements each year to ease the pain caused by arthritis and make a more active life possible.

Scoliosis and Spine Center
We offer a complete spectrum of treatment for spine problems, injuries, tumors and developmental irregularities, from conservative medical and physical therapy-based treatments to the latest surgical options. Our physicians and staff have helped thousands of people who suffer from back pain and spine conditions.

Hand, Wrist and Upper Extremity Treatment
We have physicians who specialize in the care of hand, wrist and upper extremity problems. Their expertise provides relief from carpal tunnel syndrome, hand and wrist injuries, birth defects of the hand, degenerative conditions and injuries. Among the treatment options we provide are reconstructive, microvascular, and endoscopic surgery.

Foot and Ankle Treatment
We can provide relief for a wide range of foot, ankle and lower leg problems, including fallen arches, “shoeing” problems, bunions, hammertoes, athletic and traumatic injuries.

Trauma
We treat all common orthopaedic injuries, including fractures and dislocations, for patients of all ages.

Sports Medicine
Whether you’re an avid golfer, a weekend basketball player, a Little League catcher or a professional athlete, our specialists offer the treatments, guidance and support you need to get back into the game. Surgical procedures include arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery coupled with intense physical therapy for a better, faster recovery.

Diagnostic Services
The best treatment begins with careful diagnosis. MRI, CT scans, ultrasound exams, X-rays and other tools are used to uncover the underlying causes of your orthopaedic problem.

Preoperative Total Joint Classes
These educational classes provide an in-depth explanation of your surgery, hospital stay and recuperation. We let you and your family know what to expect.

Volunteer Patient Advocate Program
Our volunteers, who know what it’s like to undergo an orthopaedic procedure, will greet you and your family on the day of surgery, answer non-medical questions and take care of your family while you’re in surgery.

Inpatient Surgery
Our team of expert orthopaedic surgeons performs more than 2,000 inpatient surgical procedures each year. Joint replacements, spine and back surgery, upper and lower extremity surgery and a host of other procedures are performed in our specially equipped operating rooms staffed by nurses and technicians dedicated to orthopaedic surgery. Patients recover comfortably in our Orthopaedic unit where they receive attentive care designed to help them build their strength and confidence.

Outpatient Surgery
Thanks to advances in surgical techniques and technology, a wide range of orthopaedic procedures including arthroscopic ACL repair of the knee, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and arthroscopy of the shoulder and rotator cuff can be performed on an outpatient basis. That means you don’t have to spend the night in the hospital and can recover comfortably at home with your family and friends.

Dedicated Inpatient Orthopaedic Care Unit
When you receive inpatient orthopaedic surgery, your post-surgery care will take place in a unit specially designed for the care of orthopaedic patients. The staff is made up of specialists who understand your needs, are committed to providing you with the very best care, and are always willing to answer questions and offer you support.
