The Gynecologic Oncology Center
The Gynecologic Oncology Center at St. Joseph Medical Center offers the very latest advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers such as uterine (endometrial) cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, vaginal cancer and vulvar cancer. The goal is to be aggressive with prevention so that the number of women being diagnosed continues to decrease and, when treatment like surgery is called for, to continue to make the survival rates go up.
Headed by renowned gynecologic oncology surgeon Dr. Neil Rosenshein, the Center offers an expert team of specialists dedicated to the care of women with gynecologic cancers, including a holistic philosophy that is attentive to mind, body and soul, and focuses on patients as individuals.
Diagnosis and Treatment
The diagnosis of gynecologic cancers is a partnership among cancer specialists, gynecologists, primary care physicians and patients. This is because the single most significant step that women can take toward early detection is to have regular gynecologic check ups.
To that end, experts advocate this important first step in a woman’s gynecologic health. Once a problem is detected, the Center’s staff take additional steps toward specific diagnosis and treatment options.
In many cases, surgery is the primary treatment and is often the most effective way to remove cancerous areas. Surgery may also be combined with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy, depending on the stage of cancer.

“For nearly 80,000 women in the U.S. annually, the diagnosis of gynecologic cancer is a harsh reality – even harsher when considering that about 28,000 of those women will die. Fortunately, survival rates have been improving due to advances in detection, diagnosis and treatments.”
