The Breast Center at St. Joseph Medical Center combines the expertise of advanced imaging diagnostics with breast and reconstructive surgery, medical and radiation oncology, and other key disciplines such as pathology, nursing, nutritional services, social work and genetic counseling – in a comfortable and convenient setting that is individualized and sensitive to the unique needs of breast cancer patients.

With more than 30 years experience as a breast surgeon, Dr. Michael J. Schultz leads The Breast Center and its team of dedicated breast oncology experts, combining his philosophy of compassion and sensitivity as key toward positive treatment and successful outcomes.

Diagnosis and Treatment
The Breast Center offers a much more precise and earlier detection of pre-malignancies and malignancies in the breast. Breast cancer diagnosis is helped in part through the Cancer Genetics Center, advances in imaging techniques such as ultrasound, MRI and stereotactic imaging-guided biopsies.

Along the treatment spectrum, newer forms of radiation therapy combined with more accurate forms of scanning technologies provide for targeted tumor eradication.

Patient Centered Care
Making sure that breast cancer patients are seen quickly for their initial consultation is a hallmark of The Breast Center and Dr. Schultz’s patient-centered care. Next, successful treatment of breast cancer begins with an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis. All new breast cancer patients are seen and evaluated by a multidisciplinary team of pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and reconstructive surgeons to discuss all aspects of each diagnosis, the specific cell type and the extent of the disease.

Cancer Coordinator
Newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families are often full of anxiety about the diagnosis and upcoming treatment. A Cancer Coordinator is available to all St. Joseph Medical Center cancer patients. This specialized nursing professional helps patients learn about their disease and supports patients and families throughout the entire cancer treatment process.

Support
Survivors Offering Support (SOS) is a resourceful network of women who have battled breast cancer and are making a difference by offering their support and knowledge to newly-diagnosed patients.
